Friday 30th November 2012 Newsletter 6
As we come to the end of our very successful Maths Week I am writing to thank you for your great support. The school was buzzing all week and many parents and grandparents came in to share our maths investigations. Several visitors to school commented on the lovely atmosphere and very positive feel as they entered the building. What a brilliant testament to everyones hard work!
Dont forget tomorrow morning (Saturday, between 10:00am and midday) there is another opportunity for parents to discuss any problems they are encountering when their children talk about their mathematics learning.
Playing in the Park after school
A parent came to me this week expressing concern regarding children using the park during the evening and at weekends. Although this is a concern related to time outside of school hours I felt it should be passed on to you rather than absolve ourselves of the concern. Please read the message with that intent.
The parent concerned felt that sometimes Primary school aged children play in the park without adult supervision. Just recently groups of teenagers/young adults have been using the park to hang around. This has caused some adults to feel very uncomfortable when walking through the park and for some children it could be rather intimidating. The parent wished to raise awareness of the situation and highlight the fact that the children are defenceless if they are confronted. Thank you.
Another parent has spoken to me today regarding the traffic on Kewstoke Road this morning. Please be aware that the children are extremely vulnerable particularly when lorries and vans are parked at the side of the road.
Many thanks for supporting the Waterstones book fair. Many of you visited it and bought books for Christmas. Please note that we recommend Maths for Mums and Dads by Rob Eastaway and Mike Askew as this book is very helpful in explaining Key Stage 2 and 3 (Lower Secondary) mathematics.
Please hand in your order forms for photos by Monday 3rd December at the latest.
Enclosed with this letter is a Data Collection Sheet for each family. Please check the details on this form and return it to the school office promptly to enable us to keep an accurate record.
After carefully considering the need for tablet computers we decided that the Blackberry Playbook best suited our needs. It is very well designed and constructed by a company that is a leader in portable devices. In addition to the usual tablet features it has excellent HD cameras, high capacity (64Gb), very reliable, fast processor, HD screen, access to an enormous amount of software and the right size for our children to handle. We are also able to remotely manage them to ensure school data remains secure and they comply with our e-safety policy. These tablets unlike any others were designed for the business market and were originally over £400. The current price means they are affordable for school at a fraction of the iPad price.
The playbooks were purchased through PC World. Having contacted them they would be happy to supply further tablets for parents to buy at a cost of £125 (this includes the cost of a case which normally retails at £15!) If you would be interested in purchasing one of these please complete the form below and we will contact you at the beginning of next week with further details.
I am interested in purchasing a Blackberry Playbooks. Please send me more information
